Operations Controller

Purpose of the Job

This role is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily courier and logistics operations to ensure timely vehicle departures, accurate freight handling, and professional service delivery. Key responsibilities include tracking vehicle schedules, ensuring compliance with driver and freight requirements, overseeing parcel sorting and manifesting, and managing POD debriefs. The role requires strong presence on the warehouse floor, proactive problem resolution, and strict adherence to claims procedures and client service standards. Daily reporting, freight monitoring, and promoting professionalism across teams are essential to maintaining operational efficiency and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities 
  • Monitor and track all vehicle departures and arrivals to ensure adherence to scheduled times
  • Ensure all freight is collected and lodged by the designated logistics partners
  • Oversee the completion of courier checklists, including vehicle inspections, device checks, and verification of all PODs prior to debrief
  • Maintain a consistent presence on the warehouse floor during parcel sorting to ensure freight is accurately routed and manifested
  • Ensure that all drivers are always in possession of a valid PRDP
  • Always uphold professional conduct, ensuring behaviour is beyond reproach and aligned with both company and client expectations
  • Ensure the “freight on floor” and 1x1x1 reports are clear and up to date. Billing must be checked and completed daily without exception
  • Compile, update, and submit operational statistics and reports to the Operations Manager
  • Manage all non-conforming items in accordance with the claim’s procedure. Recommend and/or implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of damages or losses. All claims must be addressed within 48 hours in collaboration with the Operations Manager
  • Promptly escalate any client-related issues or non-conformances to management. Ensure freight is managed as per individual client requests
  • During vehicle debriefing, ensure all PODs and collections are properly accounted for. If a POD is not returned, initiate an immediate investigation without exception
  • Promote and maintain a culture of professionalism across all levels—particularly in interactions with clients, peers, departments, and branches
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • At least 2 years relevant experience within a Courier and Customer Service environment
  • Knowledge of Freight / Courier Industry
