Purpose of the Job
The Trainee Driver Trainer supports the Driver Training Department by developing the skills and knowledge needed to become a certified Driver Trainer. Through mentorship, hands-on experience, and formal training, the role prepares individuals to deliver coaching, assess performance, and promote safe, compliant driving in line with organisational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Training Support & Delivery
- Assist in observing and assessing driver performance, providing feedback under supervision
- Shadow qualified trainers during training sessions and contribute to delivery preparation
- Participate in coaching sessions and driver development initiatives
- Support in conducting on-route assessments and safety briefings
- Attend and assist with internal and TETA-related training programs
- Help deliver driver inductions and refresher courses
- Contribute to the creation and updating of training materials
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain accurate driver records, training files, and attendance registers
- Update internal learner management systems with driver training data
- Monitor documentation like licenses and PrDPs for renewal compliance
- Assist in generating training reports and tracking performance metrics
- Provide administrative support including scheduling, reporting, and documentation
Operational Support
- Assist with vehicle dispatch and basic operational tasks
- Monitor the condition and maintenance schedule of training vehicles
- Participate in audits, inspections, and incident investigations to support continuous improvement
Driver Performance & Safety
- Observe and report driver behavior and adherence to safety protocols
- Support post-training follow-ups to reinforce learning and offer guidance
- Participate in toolbox talks and discussions on safety, equipment, and compliance
- Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, and professionalism
Team & Organisational Contribution
- Participate in team meetings, contributing to training improvements and strategies
- Support initiatives that boost driver motivation, morale, and ongoing development
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Code EC driver’s license with valid PrDP
- 3+ years’ driving experience with a clean record
- Interest in driver education and development
- Willingness to work flexible hours (evenings/weekends if required)
- Basic computer literacy (for learner management and reporting systems)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Eagerness to learn, patient demeanor, and professionalism
- Physically capable of performing route inspections and training demos
